This is a start of a new series of portraits, that will feature people smoking. Smoking and smokers get a lot of bad press, ultimately smoking is very bad for you but there is something about the act of smoking that looks cool. Possibly it is because of all those old black & white films where the hero lights up a smoke whilst lit by a single street light and exhales slowly through his nose whilst making eye contact with the glamorous blonde across the street, or more recently Don Draper looking broodingly into a whiskey whilst lighting up a Lucky Strike. For me it was Sean Young in Bladerunner when she was being interrogated by Harrison Ford.
Whatever it is some part of our culture will always find smoking intriguing even if we end up wondering why people would run the risks.
