The Nam Pai Chuan style of martial art originates from the Shaolin temples in both northern and southern China, and is now taught at centres around the world.

They employ traditional training methods which have been used for centuries to teach kung fu to Shaolin monks, alongside more modern methods to help their students learn self-defence techniques and improve their fitness.

The instructor at the Horsham centre of Nam Pai Chuan school is Jose Manuel, Jose began studying Shaolin Nam Pai Chuan at the University of Sussex in 2004. He trains regularly at the University of Sussex under the guidance of Sifu Matthew Gross, as well as teaching at Horsham. Furthermore he attends scheduled black belt training weekends ran by the seniors of the system.

He gained his black belt in September 2011 and opened the Horsham Nam Pai Chuan centre in January 2012. Jose also supports Sifu Gross with teaching classes and small groups at Sussex. He is currently training towards his second degree black belt.

I am very grateful to Jose and his class for allowing me to take the photos you see here and wish them very good luck for the future, I was impressed with their dedication and skill.
